Barley Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 27, 2026
Last updated: September 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Barley (“Barley”, “the app”) handles information. Barley is published by John Rave Domingo, doing business as Ravhaus (“Ravhaus”, “we”, “us”, “our”). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at developer@ravhaus.com.
We built Barley to keep your information on your device. We do not operate user accounts, we do not run advertising, and we do not track you across apps or websites. This policy describes, in detail, the limited cases in which information leaves your device.
1. Summary
- Your tasks, notes, streak, occasions and settings are stored on your iPhone. We cannot see them.
- Barley does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and does not sell or share personal information.
- Information leaves your device only when you choose to send us feedback, and when Apple processes your purchases.
- You can delete your data at any time by deleting the app, and you can ask us to delete any feedback you have sent.
2. Information stored on your device
Barley stores the following information locally on your device, in the app’s private storage and in a storage area shared only between the app and its widgets and Live Activity:
- Your first name, which you enter during setup and which Barley uses to greet you.
- Tasks and related details: titles, notes, dates, start and end times, repeat settings, completion status, and your task history (the Archive).
- Streak information: your streak count, rest days, revives and related dates.
- Your birthday (month and day only, never the year), if you choose to add it.
- Special occasions you save, meaning the titles you type (for example “Mom’s birthday”) and their dates. These may include the names of other people you choose to enter. Please only enter information you are comfortable storing on your device.
- Settings and preferences, such as appearance, notification times, sounds, haptics and display modes.
- Purchase-related status, such as whether Premium is active, gift periods and revive counts.
A small number of records, such as whether the first-coffee gift has already been claimed and your saved birthday, are also kept in your device’s secure storage (the iOS Keychain). This prevents them from being reset if you reinstall the app. These records are not synced and never leave your device.
This information is not transmitted to us or to any third party. It is protected by your device’s own security features, such as your passcode and Face ID or Touch ID.
3. Information that leaves your device
3.1 Feedback you choose to send
When you use Give Feedback in Barley’s Settings, the following is sent to us:
- the message you write;
- your email address, only if you choose to enter one (it is optional, and we use it only to reply to you);
- the Barley version and the iOS version on your device, to help us understand and fix problems.
Feedback is transmitted over an encrypted connection to Formspree, a form-processing service that delivers it to our inbox. Formspree processes this information on our behalf and under its own privacy policy. If a message cannot be sent right away (for example, because you are offline), it is stored on your device and sent automatically the next time Barley is opened.
We use feedback only to respond to you and to improve Barley. We do not add your email address to marketing lists, and we do not sell or share it.
3.2 Purchases
Barley offers an optional subscription (Barley Premium) and optional one-time purchases (revives and a “buy the developer a coffee” tip). All purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
We never receive your name, payment card details or billing address. Apple provides the app with a record confirming which purchases are active, so Barley can unlock the features you paid for. The app verifies these records on your device.
3.3 Diagnostics provided by Apple
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash reports and basic usage statistics about Barley. This is controlled entirely by you in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements. We use this information only to find and fix problems.
4. Features that run on your device
- Notifications. Reminders (daily check-ins, streak reminders, task and overdue reminders, birthdays and occasions) are scheduled locally on your device. They are not sent through our servers. You can turn them off in Barley’s Settings or in iOS Settings.
- Widgets and Live Activity. These display information already stored on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
- Background refresh. Barley may occasionally refresh in the background, as permitted by iOS, to keep reminders and subscription status up to date. This happens on your device.
- Sounds and haptics. These are played locally and do not involve any data collection.
5. What we do not do
- We do not create user accounts or require sign-in.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
- We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
6. How we use information
We use the limited information we receive (feedback and optional Apple diagnostics) only to:
- respond to your messages and support requests;
- understand, diagnose and fix problems;
- improve Barley and plan future features.
Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on your consent (when you choose to send feedback) and on our legitimate interest in supporting and improving the app.
7. Data retention
- Information stored on your device remains there until you delete it or delete the app.
- Feedback messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and to improve the app, and are deleted on request.
- Keychain records described in section 2 may remain on your device after you delete the app, as is standard iOS behavior. They contain no information beyond what is described above.
8. Your choices and rights
You can:
- view, edit or delete your tasks and other information in the app at any time;
- delete all data stored by the app by deleting Barley from your device;
- choose not to provide an email address when sending feedback;
- turn notifications, sounds and haptics on or off;
- ask us to access, correct or delete any feedback you have sent, by emailing developer@ravhaus.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, and the California Consumer Privacy Act. These may include the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because we hold very little information about you, most requests can be answered quickly. We will respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law.
9. Children
Barley is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the feedback feature, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect information. Data stored by Barley is protected by your device’s built-in security, and feedback is sent over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what we collect so that very little information exists outside your device.
11. International transfers
We are based in the Philippines. Feedback you send is processed by Formspree, which may store data in the United States or other countries. By sending feedback, you understand that it may be processed outside your country, where data protection laws may differ. We rely on our service providers’ safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add new features such as sync across devices. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you within the app before the change takes effect.
